Kwara govt to sanction unregistered waste contractors
The Kwara State Commissioner for Environment, Mrs. Funke Julianah Oyedun, has said any unregistered contractor caught engaging in illegal waste collection will be sanctioned.
The commissioner disclosed this, on Wednesday, during a meeting with the Kwara State Commercial Refuse Contractors in Ilorin, the state capital.
She said unregistered waste contractors are threats to the progress of the State due to their illegal services rendered to the public, especially improper disposal of waste to the appropriate dumpsites when evacuated.
Oyedun disclosed that a taskforce will soon be constituted for proper monitoring and supervision of the waste contractors’ activities in the state, adding that violators would be penalised.
The Commissioner emphasized that all hands must therefore be on deck to achieve success while promising that the State Environmental Protection Agency will work in synergy with the Ministry as a team to curb such illegal activities.
