Kwara govt to plant trees on 5 hectares of land to boost economic growth

In a bid to boost the economy and enhance people’s livelihoods, the Kwara State Government, through the Kwara Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) initiative, has revealed plans to earmark five hectares of land for establishing nurseries to plant economically valuable trees.

During an advocacy tour to the proposed beneficiary communities to facilitate the smooth take-off and effective implementation of the project, Project Coordinator Alhaji Shamsideen Olatunbosun Aregbe, accompanied by Alhaji Idris Mahmoud, Director of Forestry in the Ministry of Environment and staff from the State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU), visited the proposed sites. He emphasised the importance of ensuring a seamless project implementation in these communities.

At the palace of Oba Onipetu of Ipetu-Igbomina in Irepodun Local Government Area, His Royal Majesty, Oba Samuel Olabanji Olarewaju, Erinfolami, Ilufemiloye I, expressed appreciation to the State Government, the World Bank, and the team for including his community among the six chosen for the project. He assured the team of his community’s readiness to create the necessary enabling environment for the project’s success.

The team also visited the Iponrin community in Ilorin East Local Government Area, where they highlighted that the nurseries to be established would complement efforts to increase productivity, improve income, and enhance residents’ livelihoods.

During the visit, Alhaji Idris Mahmoud, Director of Forestry, encouraged the community to seize the opportunity presented by the proposed projects for better economic development.

In response, the Baale of Iponrin, Alhaji Hamed Musa Otebakun IV, expressed gratitude to the team and pledged to work on earmarking the required hectares for the project.
