Kwara govt to fine motorists N10,000 for illegal parking

The Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority has said it would sanction motorists who park indiscriminately on roads in the state.

The state government placed a ban on indiscriminate parking on roads as part of measures to ensure safety of all road users.

In a statement by the Authority’s spokesperson, Omotayo Taofeek, he said violation of this order will attract a fine of N10,000.

The statement reads in part, “This order is meant to curb illegal parking of vehicles, improve the aesthetic value of the areas, remove encroachment of the road due to activities of traders and artisans who had turned the road side and designated walk ways to their areas of display.

“Meanwhile, the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) had been directed by the Ministry of Works and Transport to apprehend and issue fines to violators of this order to the tune of N10,000 for parking or stoping at all prohibited spaces along Muritala Muhammed Way, Ahmadu Bello Way, Post Office, Sulu-Gambari Road, Emir’s Road and other places within the area.

“Also, traders displaying their wares on the walkways and road side are to be sanctioned with appropriate penalty by the Authority to serve as deterrent to others.”
