Kwara govt reverses daily ticketing levy, declares NARTO, ATTAN illegal
The Kwara State Government has moved to calm growing tension in the transport sector by reversing the recently adjusted daily ticketing levies and reaffirming that the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) and the Allied Truck Transporters Association of Nigeria (ATTAN) are not recognised to operate in the state.
In a public announcement issued on Friday by the Ministry of Transportation, the government said the intervention followed widespread concerns and rumours circulating on social media over alleged increases in daily ticketing charges imposed on transport operators.
The ministry clarified that both NARTO and ATTAN remain illegal in Kwara State unless they comply with the rules and regulations stipulated by the Ministry of Transportation, a position earlier communicated through official news updates and radio announcements.
Addressing the controversy over daily ticketing, the government assured transporters that swift action had been taken. According to the statement, the Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi, met with the leadership of recognised transport unions in the state, including National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Road Transport Employers Association, and TOAN.
The meeting, the ministry said, resulted in an agreement to reverse the daily ticketing levy to its initial amount.
Reaffirming the state government’s stance, Hon. Korasabi stressed that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq remains committed to maintaining peace and harmony across Kwara State. He added that the government would continue to arbitrate on the matter in the interest of fairness and stability.
The commissioner urged transport operators to shelve all grievances and embrace peace, warning that individuals or groups found causing disruption after the announcement would face the full weight of the law.
