Kwara govt mourns workers killed in May day accident

The Acting Head of Service in Kwara State, Olufunke Mercy Shittu, has expressed grief over a road accident that claimed the lives of three workers and left four others injured on Workers’ Day.

The victims were said to be returning from the May Day celebration in Ilorin when the incident occurred.

In a condolence message issued by her office, Shittu described the accident as tragic and a painful loss to the state workforce, noting that it had cast a shadow over a day meant to celebrate workers’ contributions.

She extended condolences to the families of the deceased, urging them to find comfort in the lives their loved ones lived in service to the state and humanity.

The Head of Service also sympathised with the Nigeria Labour Congress in Kwara State, acknowledging the impact of the incident on the labour community.

She further commiserated with the Medical and Health Workers’ Union, describing the loss as a significant setback for a sector critical to public health service delivery.

Shittu also extended condolences to the Chairman of Ekiti Local Government Area, Awelewa Gabriel, noting that the incident represents a shared loss for both the local government and the state.

She offered prayers for the injured workers, expressing hope for their quick recovery as they continue to receive treatment.

The Acting Head of Service called on motorists and other road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, stressing the need for greater caution to prevent similar tragedies.

She reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the welfare and safety of its workforce, while urging support for the families affected by the incident.
