Kwara Govt launches P-CNG vehicles to enhance transportation scheme
The Kwara State Government has announced the launch of Compressed Nitrogen Gas (CNG) vehicles, a strategic move aimed at improving transportation options for residents.
The official unveiling took place at the Ministry of Transportation Headquarters in Ilorin, spearheaded by the Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi.
“Today marks a significant milestone as we align with the Federal Government’s ongoing transportation initiatives to alleviate the financial burden on our citizens,” said Hon.
Korasabi during the launch. He characterized the PCNG Initiative as a pilot program directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, designed to enhance transportation accessibility across all 36 states in Nigeria.
The Commissioner praised the swift acquisition of CNG buses, noting that it reflects Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to improving the living standards of the populace through affordable transport solutions.
“This initiative aims to create healthy competition rather than displace existing transportation services, providing more choices for our citizens,” he added.
The initial rollout will include key locations such as Abuja, Lagos, and Ibadan, as well as various localities within Kwara State, including Lafiagi, Kiama, and Patigi.
Mallam Tajudeen Onikoko, representing the Permanent Secretary, expressed support for the program, urging transport unions to collaborate with CNG operators for a peaceful coexistence.
“It is crucial for all stakeholders to work together to create a harmonious transportation environment,” he stated.
Mr. Babatunde Gegele, the State Coordinator for the CNG Station, announced that the station will be located at Odota Ilorin. He expressed confidence that the initiative will fill the void left by the defunct Kwara Express and provide reliable and affordable transport.
Leaders from various transport unions, including Alh. AbdulRahman Olayinka Onikijipa, described the program as transformative and long-awaited. “This initiative will not only boost our sector but also alleviate the suffering faced by the masses,” they affirmed.
The launch event saw attendance from directors within the Ministry, executive cabinet members, and representatives from law enforcement agencies, all committing to support the successful implementation of this transportation revolution in Kwara State.
