…approves N361m for school’s renovation
The Kwara State Government has expended the sum of N42,579,638.00 for the perimeter fence of the Government High School, Adeta in Ilorin West council area of the state, a report by the Elites Network for Sustainable Development (ENetSuD) reveals.
The state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had, in a virtual meeting with ENetSuD’s coordinator, in August, proposed social auditing which would see civic groups and communities monitoring projects and issuing independent reports that would form the basis of his administration making payments to contractors after the initial mobilisation fee.
According to document released to the CSO, the project, which is valued at N42m, is meant for the reconstruction of the whole school fence.
While the whole school renovation gulps N361,957,438.82, the breakdown shows the Exam Hall is valued N10,617,084.60; Computer Room – N3,033,767.50; and Laboratory Block – N11,401,063.81.
Whilst N40,927,588.64 was expended on Staff Quarters, Classroom Blocks took N138,390,980.07, the Female and Male Hostels valued N32,307,039.00 and N32,183,765.01 respectively.
Others in the infographic breakdown released to the CSO, by the government, includes; Toilets – N7,767,631.47; Sporting Facilities – N3,503,636.00; Drainage – 5,768,749.10; Home Economics Centre – N12,569,367.42 and Into-Tech Lab – N5,456,318.00.
“Government High School project is not yet completed by the contractor,” a statement earlier posted on the official Facebook page of ENetSuD reads.
Meanwhile, the Kwara based CSO said it has gathered experts to start the measurement and evaluation of the projects.
Recall that the Kwara State House of Assembly had in a statement released on June 15, summoned the Commissioner for Education, Fatimah Bisola and contractors in charge of the project.
According to the statement, the Assembly speaker, Yakubu Danladi Salihu said the level of work done by the contractors did not commensurate with money paid to them.
However, nothing would later be heard of the case but an honourable who doesn’t want his name in print said the contractors were asked to review the project.
