Kwara govt advises LGs against revenue leakage
The Kwara State Government has implored Local Governments to brace up and close the leakages in their Internally Generated Revenue, saying such fund could cover the increasing costs of Councils.
Oba Azeez, the Press Secretary for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development said the Ministry’s commissioner, Arc. Saifudeen Aliyu Mohammed gave the charge at the maiden monthly meeting with the Council Chairmen held at the Conference Hall of the Ministry in Ilorin.

The commissioner said the Council bosses play the key role of Chief Accounting Officer of their respective Local Governments where they are expected to observe and comply fully with the checks and balances spelled out in the Financial Regulations governing the disbursement of funds.
“The Councils have to conduct their affairs in line with the Service Rules but the Ministry has its well-thought-out cabinet responsibilities to advise where necessary for the smooth running of the government of the day in the State,” he said.
For their part, the Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government who also doubles as ALGON Chairman, Hon. Jide Asonibare commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his magnanimity in appointing them as TIC Chairmen, assuring that they will justify the confidence reposed in them.
