Kwara Fire Service contains fire incident as tanker carrying 33,000 litres of petrol suffers tyre burst in Oyo

The men of the Kwara State Fire Service on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, to a Fire incident emanated from the tanker carrying 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) after suffering a tyre burst, resulting in a spill.

According to a statement by Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the Head of Media and Publicity, the inferno, which occurred at exactly 8:30 pm at Sabo Market, Orile Igbon, along the Ogbomoso Expressway in Oyo State, was contained by the firefighters and prevented further escalation.

The statement furthered that through the swift and coordinated response of the firemen, over 10,000 litres of PMS were safely siphoned into another tanker, minimising potential hazards.

However, the spokesperson for the Fire Service confirmed that no lives were lost, and no injuries were reported in the incident caused by a tyre burst.

“Prior to our arrival, the Oyo State Fire Service, Ogbomoso branch, had already responded to the emergency. However, it is deeply concerning that their personnel were violently attacked with stones, leading to severe damage to their fire truck, including a shattered windscreen. In the face of this hostility, they were forced to seek refuge at Owode Police Station,” the statement added.

The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, however, condemned the attacks on firefighters while urging the public to desist from obstructing emergency responders, saying individuals found guilty of assaulting fire service personnel will face the full weight of the law.
