Kwara Customs seizes 48 Marijuana sacks, Bags of rice, others
The Kwara Command of Nigerian Customs Service has seized 959 bags of foreign rice and 48 sacks of cannabis of 50 kilogramme each illegally smuggled into the country.
According to the command, the seized items have a total duty paid value of four hundred and N448million.
Addressing newsmen on Wednesday in Kwara, its Comptroller, Hussein Bello Ahmed, said other items seized included 16 units of various cars,185 Jerry cans of PMS conatining 25 litres each, and 4,357 bags of mosquito coil at various routes.
Ahmed said, “You are not un-aware of reported wide spread abuse on the substance across the country by our teaming youths, this act is unfortunate and we at Kwara Command will continue to do everything humanly possible to stop the smuggling of the substance in order to guarantee a great and promising future for our youths. These group of people are our children and they are Nigerians, you are Nigerians and we all Nigerians, we must join hands together to deal with the ugly trend.”
He however, emphasized that the Command would continue to dialogue, engage, sensitize and educate the public on the strategic role of the Custom activities to the social and economic stability of the nation, while also assuring Nigerians that the enforcement of government’s policies would always be accorded utmost priority with strict adherence to extant laws and guidelines.
While commending the synergy between the Custom and other sister agencies, opinion leaders, traditional institutions and other key stakeholders, Ahmed appealed to Nigerians to support the Agency in its anti-smuggling war to end the ugly trend in the country.
