The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kwara State has felicitated Mallam Saliu Mustapha, the Senator-elect for Kwara Central Senatorial District.
This was revealed in a signed letter released by the Chairman, Reverend Timothy Adewole.
Saliu Mustapha of the All Progressives Congress, APC defeated Bolaji Abdullahi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Dr Ridwan Apaokagi of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to become a senator in the February 25 elections.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mustapha gathered 109,823 votes to conquer his closest political challenger, Abdullahi, who polled 69,148 votes.
Mustapha has received his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The chairman of CAN sent congratulatory wishes to the Senator elect, saying: “Our heartfelt congratulations go to you at this special time for your election as the Senator representing the people of Kwara Central Senatorial District. Truly, you are the people’s choice.”
He also revealed that the Christian body is okay with the antecedents and track record of Mustapha and nurses the confidence that he would do better.
“We trust that during your tenure, good things shall be our portion and you will strive to ensure peace and unity in an atmosphere that will ensure that the dividends of democracy are experienced by all and sundry,” the letter further stated.
He said the body would continue to pray for Mustapha at all time.
“You can rely on the support of CAN for anything that will benefit our people.”
