The Joint Ilorin East and South Community Development Associations, a group agitating for power shift on the Kwara Central Senatorial ticket asked a former National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Lanre Onilu to lend his voice in support of the agitations for power shift from Ilorin West Local Government Area to other local government areas within the Emirate.
The group also warned that it would soon publicly name and shame any stakeholders from either of Ilorin South and East that have been identified to be openly or secretly sabotaging the agitations for power shift for personal gains.
The group stated this on Thursday when it paid a courtesy call on some select traditional rulers in Gambari area led by the Seriki Gambari of Ilorin, Alhaji Yahaya Ahmad Seriki Gambari.
In his remarks, the group’s coordinator Abdullahi Sulu-Gambari said any true born of the federal constituency should be morally obliged to openly endorse the agitations.
“But for those who are unable to openly support the agitations, we reasonably expect that they won’t sabotage it for any narrow reasons.
“Anyone of our brethren who is discovered to be sabotaging the agenda will be made to face the music, he declared.
“Mr. Lanre Onilu is a major stakeholder. He is a voice to reckon with in the APC in Kwara state. We expect that if he can’t support this agitation, he shouldn’t knowingly or unknowingly sabotage it.
“We will outrightly disown any political stakeholder who betrays this struggle. It will be a disgrace for anyone who hails from the constituency to refuse to agitate for justice and fairness from the leadership of their various parties when it matters most.”
The group, however, called on traditional and religious leaders within the zone to lend their voices, adding that “no one should sit on the fence”.
Suffice to note that in the past weeks, several groups and individuals have protested that the Senatorial seat be occupied by members of the four local government areas in the district.
In fact, a group under the umbrella of Ilorin East and South Constituency Youth Stakeholders has written a letter to the State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq seeking the zoning of Kwara Central Senatorial Seat to Ilorin East and South constituency in 2023.
The letter was co-signed by the Association’s Coordinator, Mallam Salman Habeeb Olesin, and the Secretary, Mallam Usman Muhammed Kawu Kano
