Kwara BECE 2025: Pass rates rise in mathematics, english as enrolment hits 57,787
The Kwara State Government has released the results of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), showing improved pass rates in key subjects and an increase in student enrolment.
According to official data from the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, pass rates in Mathematics and English recorded notable gains, while overall enrolment rose by 27% between 2019 and 2025, including steady growth in female participation.
The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, said in a statement that the results reflect the impact of sustained investments in the education sector under the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
“Between 2019 and 2025, the BECE has experienced sustained growth and gradual gains in equity. Enrolment increased from 45,761 candidates in 2019 to 57,787 in 2025, with female candidates rising from 47.89% to 48.33%,” Olohungbebe said.
The 2025 cycle also recorded another step up, as enrolment rose from 56,508 candidates in 2024 to 57,787 this year. Attendance in core subjects improved, with English, for instance, rising from 95.29% to 96.09%.
Performance gains were also highlighted across key subjects, with pass rates improving by +2.23 percentage points in Mathematics, +2.94 in English, +4.51 in National Values, +3.72 in History, and +3.33 in Pre-Vocational Studies. Average scores also rose, particularly in English, Mathematics, and National Values, indicating broader improvements beyond just the pass threshold.
“The system is trending in the right direction: more candidates are entering and sitting the examinations, and a larger share is achieving success, with meaningful improvements concentrated in the core subjects that matter most for progression,” the commissioner added.
Dr. Olohungbebe directed principals of junior secondary schools across the state to visit the ministry from Thursday, September 11, 2025, to collect their students’ results, which will be issued free of charge along with scratch cards for result checking.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Olanrewaju Rebecca Bake, commended the staff of the Curriculum and Assessment Department for their commitment to ensuring the smooth conduct of the examinations.
