Kwara Assembly Speaker risks imprisonment as court summons him for contempt

The Court of Appeal sitting in Ilorin has ordered the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Salihu Danladi, to appear before the appellate court over his continued disobedience to court order

Danladi was summoned for disobeying several court orders on the swearing-in of PDP Member-elect, Hon Abdulraheem Jimoh Agboola.

Jimoh Agboola in November was declared the winner of Ilorin South Constituency in the State House of Assembly following a court ruling on March 9, 2019, general election.

The Court also mandated the Speaker to appear before it in order to prove why the court should not commit him to prison following his open disregard to court orders

The Court Registrar in a summon notice issued on Tuesday to apply to the court for disobeying the orders of July 29, 2020.

According to the court notice, “Judgement creditor, (Hon Jimoh Raheem Agboola) will be applying to the court an order to commit the Speaker to prison for refusal to obey several judgments of court especially that which was issued on 12th November 2019 and another order given on July 29th, 2020 by same Honorable court and which was published on page 28 of “This day Newspaper of 17th September 2020.

“Take notice that the judgment creditor applicant will on 11th Day of February 2021 at the hour of 9am will apply to this court for an order for your committal to prison having disobeyed orders of the court .”

“And further take notice that you are hereby required to attend the court on the first-mentioned day to show cause why an order why an order for your committal should not be made.”
