A bill to revert the name of Abubakar Saraki University to Kwara State University, Malete, on Tuesday, was passed by the Kwara State House of Assembly.
Recall that the 8th Assembly among several laws passed, amended the law renaming the state varsity in honour of the late Olusola Saraki, father of the ex-senate president of Nigeria, Bukola Saraki.
According to a statement released by the information department of the Assembly, the house also passed three other Amendment Bills to drive best practices in the education sector and Local Government administration in the state.
The statement read in part, “The amendment Bills passed into Law are Kwara State Teaching Service Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2020 which abrogated office of the Permanent Secretary and replaced it with that of Secretary as Head of Administration while the Chairman becomes the Chief Executive and Accounting Officer of the Commission.
“The Kwara State University ( Amendment) Bill, 2020 which reverted the name of the University from Abubakar Sola Saraki University to Kwara State University.
“The Kwara State Compulsory, Free Universal Basic Education (Amendment) Bill, 2020 that abrogated the office of the office of the Permanent Secretary and replaced it with the Secretary of the Board as the Admnistrative Head and make the Chairman the Accounting Officer.”
Also passed was the Kwara State Local Government ( Miscellaneous Provisions)( Amendment) Bill, 2020 which abrogated the office of the Permanent Secretary and replaced it with the Secretary of the Commission as the Administrative Head and make the Chairman the Accounting Officer.
The Speaker, Rt Hon Yakubu Danladi Salihu was said to have directed the Clerk of the House, Hajia Halimah Jummai Kperogi to send clean copies of the Bills to the State Governor for his assent.
