Kwara Assembly member, Owolabi presents new vehicle to campaign DG

Honourable Razaq Owolabi, the representative of Share/Oke Ode state constituency at the Kwara State House of Assembly, has presented a brand new car to his Campaign Director General in the last election, Alhaji Tajudeen Adedotun.

Owolabi, who made the presentation of the Toyota Camry car gift at his Ilorin GRA residence on Monday, hailed Adedotun’s commitment and dedication.

He described him as a loyal aide who played a pivotal role in his successful election campaign.

He said, “Adedotun has graciously offered himself for the service of the good people of Share/Oke-Ode constituency and I think that is an offer we should not take lightly. When you work to make good leaders, you have done well for your people.

“He is a loyal man to be core, he is an elderly man. He works so much for the victory we are celebrating today. He has been with me since the days I was contesting for House of Rep. When I later dropped for House of Assembly, he still stood firmly.”

He assured his constituents of more empowerment initiatives in the future, highlighting his determination to provide meaningful contributions to the well-being of those he represents.

Adedotun, visibly elated by the generous gesture, conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to Owolabi and the entire campaign team for their trust and commitment.

In his remarks, he commended Owolabi for the presentation of the vehicle, noting that it was a privilege to serve him.

The campaign DG who was visibly surprised shed tears of joy as he was handed the key and papers of the vehicle.

He said, “I don’t even know what to say. This is an unexpected gift from God through my principal. I did not know what I have done to deserve this. As a former DG, I just did what is expected of me. I did that in the civil service as well without expecting compensation. So this is coming as a surprise and I am so appreciative of it. I pray God continue to be with him and bless him.”

A day after tribunal victory

The presentation of the vehicle occurred a day after an election tribunal upheld his victory in the last election, reaffirming him as the rightful winner of the Share/Oke Ode State Constituency seat.

Owolabi of the All Progressive Congress had in April 2023 been declared as the winner of the Share/Oke ode state constituency election. He defeated his closest rival from the Peoples Democratic Party.

The opposition candidate rejected the result and head to court before the election was upheld.

A history of generosity

Owolabi’s generosity extends beyond this recent gift, as he has a track record of notable empowerment programs for his constituents.

In 2021, he empowered his constituents with various items, including 6 vehicles, 40 grinding machines, 43 sewing machines, 20 sprayers, 2 deep freezers, 2 generators and clippers, and five thousand exercise books for primary and secondary schools in the 10 wards at Share/Oke-ode constituency.

In 2022, he continued his efforts by presenting 6 additional set of vehicles to the community, making it a total of 12 vehicles.

Speaking during the presentations, he said he sold his house to provide succor for his people.

He added, “I don’t have money, but I can spend money just to make sure the people I represent enjoy dividends of democracy. In fact, I had to sell my house to do this second empowerment. I called it emergency empowerment because I didn’t plan for it. I had to do it due to the situation my people are currently facing. I had promised some people, that was why I had to do another empowerment.

“I sold the house I built before I assumed office to do the empowerment, although God has provided another house for me. With the help of my leader, the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, I was able to secure another building.

“Any politician elected by his people and failed to deliver his or her campaign promises will account for it. I had sworn to the oath, so I must ensure I try my best to fulfill my promises. I am assuring those who have not benefitted from all these empowerments that more of it would be done soon. I can’t do everything at a time, that’s why they need to give me time to plan for another opportunity.”
