Kwara APC Reps aspirant rejects unofficial primary results, warns against premature declarations
Barr. Hussein Afolabi, an aspirant for the House of Representatives under the All Progressives Congress in the Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency, has kicked against what he described as the unofficial announcement and circulation of results from the party’s primary election held on May 16, 2026.
In a press statement on Saturday, Afolabi expressed appreciation to party members and supporters across the constituency for what he called their “overwhelming support, encouragement and confidence” during the exercise.
He, however, urged his supporters and other stakeholders to remain calm and law-abiding as the party concludes its internal processes.
“As a legal practitioner and committed party member, I firmly believe that the Party remains supreme and that there are laid down procedures, guidelines and constitutional processes governing the conduct of primary elections, collation of results and official declaration of winners,” he said.
Afolabi also raised concerns over what he called premature declarations and circulation of questionable documents, warning that such actions undermine internal order.
“It is therefore deeply concerning to witness the growing trend of premature self-declarations, circulation of questionable documents and attempts to manipulate public perception even before the completion of lawful party processes,” he stated.
The aspirant further alleged that reports reaching his camp indicated irregularities, including claims of forged results and signatures, describing the development as troubling.
Despite the controversy, he said his camp had avoided taking any step capable of escalating tension.
“Despite receiving reports and evidence from several wards indicating overwhelming support for our aspiration, we have deliberately refrained from making premature declarations,” he said.
Afolabi urged all aspirants and their supporters to exercise restraint and allow the party’s relevant organs to conclude the process in accordance with its rules.
“I therefore urge all co-aspirants and our various supporters to exercise restraint, remain responsible and allow the appropriate party organs conclude the process in accordance with established procedures,” he added.
He reaffirmed his commitment to peace, unity and party discipline, stressing that internal democracy must be guided by patience and respect for constituted authority within the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress.
