Kwara 2027: Ekiti APC stakeholders seek house of reps slot, endorse Sen. Ashiru for governorship
Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State have called for equitable political representation ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging the party’s leadership to allow the local government produce a member of the House of Representatives.
The demand formed part of resolutions reached during the APC Ekiti Local Government Stakeholders’ Consultative Engagement held at the Intercontinental Harmony Hotel, Ilorin.
The meeting, themed “Building Consensus, Ensuring Equity, and Strengthening APC’s Electoral Readiness for 2027,” brought together party leaders, elders, and grassroots stakeholders to deliberate on party unity, internal democracy, security challenges, and strategic preparedness for the next general elections.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the engagement, the stakeholders appealed to the national leadership of the APC and the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to give due consideration to the longstanding aspiration of Ekiti Local Government within the Ekiti/Oke-Ero/Isin/Irepodun Federal Constituency.
They stressed that fairness and political balance demand that Ekiti Local Government be given the opportunity to produce a representative in the House of Representatives in 2027.
The stakeholders also expressed strong confidence in the APC’s prospects in the forthcoming governorship and legislative elections, hinging such optimism on the party’s commitment to inclusiveness, transparency, and strict adherence to internal democratic processes.
On the governorship race, the meeting declared support for Senator Oyelola Yisa Ashiru, Deputy Senate Leader, describing him as a politician with the experience, competence, and leadership capacity required to govern the state effectively.
According to the communiqué, the stakeholders cited Senator Ashiru’s legislative record, political maturity, and commitment to good governance as key factors behind their endorsement.
While reaffirming that the governorship ticket of the APC remains open to qualified aspirants from all senatorial districts, the stakeholders maintained that competence, experience, and proven service must guide the party’s choice of candidate.
The meeting further encouraged all capable progressives from Ekiti Local Government to contest elective offices in the 2027 elections, particularly the federal constituency seat.
In addition, the stakeholders reaffirmed their loyalty to the APC, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, pledging continued grassroots mobilisation and disciplined political engagement to strengthen the party’s dominance in Kwara South.
The gathering also expressed sympathy with communities in Ekiti Local Government affected by recent incidents of banditry and insecurity, calling on security agencies and the state government to sustain and intensify security operations across Kwara South.
They noted that restoring peace and safety remains critical to socio-economic development and political stability in the area.
