Kogi flood victims receive N70m donation

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Yakubu Ajaka, has made N70 million donation on Saturday, to assist the flood victims in Kogi.

Ajaka in Lokoja, the capital of the state, via a statement said the donation has come as a way to address the devastating effects of the flooding on the people of the state.

The APC chieftain revealed that the donation was to get rid of the discomfort of the victims in the said Local Government Areas (LGAs).

He narrated that Ajaokuta, Lokoja Ibaji, Koton Karfe and Bassa LGAs were to receive N10 million each, while Idah, Igalamela-Odolu, Ofu and Omala LGAs were to be given the sum of N5 million each from the donation for disbursement to the victims.

“I was so moved by what my eyes saw when I visited victims in the affected local government areas and decided to do something to assist.

“As my widow’s might, l made a donation of N70 million to the eight local government areas badly affected in the state,” said the statement.

He said the stipulated amount of he gifted the victims of flood has got to designated officials in each of the affected local government areas, who will design strategies for proper disbursement of the money to the victims.

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary said: “With the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) properly documented with the maximum cooperation given by the local government chairmen and other stakeholders, I’m very sure there will be fairness and equity in the distribution of the funds.”

He has also sent message of warning to the officials in charge of the disbursement that the distribution of the funds should not be politicized.

“Let no individual or group see the gesture as an avenue to victimise anybody on the basis of political party, ethnic or religious affiliation.

“I expect the monitoring committee and chairmen of those local governments to work on the modalities to achieve fairness and transparency,” he said.

The party chieftain has thanked the Governor of the state, Yahaya Bello, for putting necessary efforts in place to facilitate the distribution of Phase I of the relief materials to flood victims.
