kidnappers request gun, N4m as ransom for our members, cows — Miyetti Allah
The association of cattle breeders in the country, also known as Miyetti Allah made a claim yesterday that gunmen had kidnapped 10 of their people and 300 cows in Anambra, and therefore requested the sum of N4 million and a gun as ransom.
The Chairman of the association in south east, Alahaji Gidado Siddiki, said the sad incident occurred at a Fulani settlement at Obene community in Ogbaru local government area, yesterday, around 1:30a.m.
He said the kidnappers stormed the affected area while they were asleep.
He narrated that the invaders, who were up to 40, came with dangerous weapons, which include guns, sticks, cutlasses and charms.
He said the kidnappers had maintained contact with the families of the victims and in one of their engagements, they requested N4 million and one gun as ransom.
Siddiki added that he had relayed details of the incident to the Police and Department of State Services, DSS, for necessary and urgent action.
He appealed to the abductors to set his members and their cows free, while explaining that those kidnapped were just looking for means to put food on their own table.
The spokesperson of the police in the state, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, encouraged the leaders of Miyetti Allah in the state to make readily available detailed information about the incident as this would enable the Police to start uncompromising investigation into the matter.
Ikenga said: “Yes, we are aware of the incident, but we want the Miyetti Allah leadership to supply us with more information, since the kidnappers have established contact with the families of the victims and demanded ransom.”
He therefore gave an assurance to the leadership of the breeders association that the Police and others would try their possible best to ensure that the victims are set free from their kidnappers.
