OWERRI, Nigeria (The Informant247) – Kidnappers are demanding a ransom of two hundred million naira to release a traditional ruler kidnapped in southern Nigeria last week, according to a source close to the abducted monarch.
The abduction of the monarch, Eze Joel Ndenkwo, in front of his office at Imo state on Friday was one of many recorded cases, which authorities have attributed to criminal gangs seeking ransom payments.
“The kidnappers of his Royal Highness have called. They called his family for the first time since his abduction on Sunday. They asked the family to make available N200m on Monday. They called through his phone. I doubt where they will get that kind of money,” the source said.
He disclosed that the kidnappers called one of his siblings through the monarch’s phone.
State police spokesperson Michael Abattam said they had begun investigations.
