Kidnappers free Ex-Nasarawa Deputy Gov. Onje Gye-Wado after N4m ransom

Kidnappers who whisked away a former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Professor Onje Gye-Wado last Thursday night have released him after collecting the sum of N4m ransom.

The release of the professor of law was confirmed by a former chairman of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) and former Commissioner of information, Mr Dogo Shammah.

He said: “To God be the Glory Prof. Onje, is finally release from the hands of kidnappers just now.”

The Informant247 earlier reported that the former number two citizen of the state was on Friday April 7 kidnapped by unidentified gunmen.

The politician was kidnapped from his residence in Gwagi village of Wamba Local Government area of the state.

While confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Ramhan Nansel said the gunmen forcefully gained entrance into the politician’s residence and took him away.

He added that the operatives of the command in collaboration with other security agencies have since commenced a search to rescue the professor.

The kidnappers have also demanded the sum of N70 million to secure his release.

They communicated the family of the victim on phone to place their demand.

A source within the victim’s family made this revelation while persuading the suspected criminals to accept the sum of N2 million for the release of the former deputy governor.

The victim’s family said the public holiday would hinder their chance of withdrawing the money in the bank.

The source said: “The kidnappers are in touch with the family of Prof and they have demanded the sum of N70 million naira, while the family has offered N2 million naira.”

“Today Friday, till Monday, is public holiday, there is nowhere we can get money and we want him (Prof), back alive”

A family source also revealed that: “They collected the ransom near Mada Hills Secondary School in Akwanga with N200 recharge card. Then he was released near Angwan chiyawa close to those hills between Akwanga and Nasarawa Eggon.”

It was gathered Gye-Wado was taken back to the palace of the paramount ruler of Wamba, Oriye Rindre, Justice Lawal Musa Nagogo after his release.
