Kidnapped victim found dead in Kwara forest
The corpse of a victim, Olujala Adegboja who was abducted last Saturday at Olla community in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State was found on Wednesday in a forest.
It would be recalled that unknown gunmen invaded Olla community on Saturday, at about 7 pm shooting sporadically, ambushed and kidnapped one Adegboyega Onijala, said to be a relation of a monarch in the town.
The victim, said to be a brother of a former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Hon. Onijala, was ambushed by the kidnappers on his way home from his farm around the community in the operation which lasted almost one hour.
At the point of his abduction, he sustained serious injuries from machete cuts as he resisted the attack by the kidnappers.
The kidnappers also demanded millions of naira as a ransom for the release of the victim.
Part of the ransom was reportedly paid but the kidnappers ended up killing the victim.
Meanwhile, the spokesman of the Kwara Police Command, Okasanmi Ajayi, on Sunday, stated that the state police commissioner, Tuesday Assayomo, had directed the anti-kidnapping and other tactical teams in conjunction with local hunters and vigilantes to launch a search and rescue operation for the victim and possible arrest of the masterminds.
According to the report, it was learnt that the body was discovered in the forest during the search and rescue operation by the local hunters and vigilantes on Wednesday morning.
A member of the victim’s family, who seek anonymity, disclosed that the victim lost much blood as a result of the injury sustained from machete cuts in the hands while in captive.
The Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Okasanmi Ajayi, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Wednesday.
The Commissioner of Police Kwara State Command, CP Tuesday Assayomo, commensurate with the family of the deceased and further assures the people of Kwara State that the Command will not relent in her effort to see that criminality of any nature and shape are brought down to a minimal level before, during and after the yuletide period in the State.
