Senate FG lopsided appointments

Kebbi senators officially join APC, fortifying party’s senate majority ahead of 2027

In a significant political development, the Senate has confirmed that Senators Adamu Aliero, Yahaya Abdullahi, and Garba Maidoki have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This formal announcement took place during a plenary session on Tuesday, following their resignation from the opposition party.

With this defection, the APC’s representation in the 10th National Assembly has increased to 68 senators, enhancing the party’s majority in the upper chamber. The event saw notable attendees, including APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, and Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs, Yusuf Sununu.

Following these changes, the Senate composition is now APC – 68, PDP – 30, Labour Party – 5, NNPP – 1, SDP – 2, and APGA – 1. This official shift comes just days after the senators met with President Bola Tinubu, marking a strategic move to align with the ruling party.
