Kawu visits Kwara Poly, pledges govt’s continued investment in education
The Kwara State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the state administration to improving the educational sector as a vital instrument for youth empowerment and national advancement.
During a recent facility tour of Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin, she stated, “This administration places education at the forefront of its priorities and will continue to invest in our institutions to build a brighter future for the next generation.
”The Commissioner was accompanied by the Director of Personnel, Finance, and Supply, Hajia Jimoh Fatima Abolore, and the Director of Research and Development, Mrs. Roliyat Omotayo Yahaya.
Hajia Modibbo Kawu commended the Polytechnic’s leadership and staff for their dedication to educational excellence, particularly highlighting the entrepreneurship centre and commercial farming projects as significant strides in vocational and technical education.
“I am truly impressed with what I’ve seen today. The facilities here reflect the hard work and commitment of the management and staff,” she remarked.
She emphasized the importance of innovation within the institution, noting that the polytechnic’s skills acquisition programs and agricultural initiatives align with the state’s goal of fostering self-reliance among graduates and combating unemployment.
“Continuous improvement is essential, and I urge the institution to maintain its drive for excellence,” she added.
In his remarks, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed expressed appreciation for the Commissioner’s visit and support for the institution. He noted that such engagements strengthen the relationship between the Ministry and the Polytechnic, describing the visit as timely and reassuring.
Dr. Jimoh also pointed out key challenges, such as land encroachment and financial constraints, that the institution faces. “Land encroachment remains a significant threat to the future expansion of the polytechnic. We seek the Ministry’s assistance in addressing this issue,” he said, further appealing for financial aid to help with the renewal of academic program accreditations and related logistics.
“We are committed to providing an enabling environment for both academic and vocational training, aligning with global best practices,” he concluded, reiterating the institution’s dedication to continuous improvement and excellence in education.
