Kano targets 10 million eligible voters in nationwide registration campaign

The Kano State Government aims to register 10 million eligible voters during the ongoing nationwide voter registration exercise organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This announcement was made by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Faruk, at the inauguration of the State Voter Registration Mobilisation Committee at the Cabinet Office in Kano.

He described the committee as diverse, including technocrats, Islamic scholars, broadcasters, business leaders, and representatives from various political parties, including the opposition.

Faruk emphasized the initiative’s importance in ensuring that every eligible resident of Kano has the opportunity to register and fulfill their civic duty in the upcoming elections.

“The objective of setting up this committee is to ensure that no eligible citizen is left out of this exercise. The government will provide all the needed support to achieve this target,” he stated.

He further directed the committee to enhance voter sensitisation campaigns across all 44 local government areas in the state, underlining the significance of inclusive participation in strengthening democracy.

Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Malam Ibrahim Waiya, expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to deliver on its mandate.

“We assure the government and people of the state that we will not betray the trust reposed in us. We will also work tirelessly to mobilise residents and achieve the target,” he said.
