The club is considered among the most popular teams in Nigeria
Kano Pillars was founded in 1990 by Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, a former chairman of the then-Nigeria Football Association (NFA) and former Sports Commissioner of Kano State.
Kano Golden Stars and Bank of the North FC, Kano Pillars achieved outstanding success by winning the 2007–08 Nigerian Premier League. Kano Pillars produced players like Abiodun Baruwa who has since played for Swiss, Austrian, Welsh and British Clubs and Sani Kaita who later plays for Sparta Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
It was registered as a limited liability company with the Corporate Affairs Commission, Nigeria, and then registered with the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) as a professional football club. The Kano Pillars drew an average home league attendance of 10,000 in the 2016 league season.
Kano Pillars also entered the Guinness Book of Records after posting the most extensive home unbeaten streak by a Nigerian Premier League team. The club played 202 games at their home ground, the Sani Abacha Stadium, between 2003 and 2015 without losing. The record ended following a 2-1 defeat to Nasarawa United. No team in the country has come close to breaking the fantastic statistics.
