There have been many questions going around about Tani Olohun, but who is he, and what happened?

Who is Tani Olohun?

Tani Olohun, whose real name is Adegbola Abdulazeez, is a social media influencer and advocate of traditionalist religion. He is very active on YouTube and Facebook, sharing his religious beliefs. His numerous followers showcase his strong influence on fostering understanding. He originated from Oyo State.

But why was he recently detained by the police and imprisoned?

What led to Tani Olohun’s arrest?

Tani Olohun was recently arrested in Ibadan due to petitions from Muslims, including Sheikh Alfa Tonile Okutagidi. The charges brought against him by the Police included defamation of character and public disturbance.

Tensions grew due to existing conflicts between the Muslim majority in Ilorin and minority Isese worshippers from the South-west, boosting Tani Olohun’s prominence.

Consequently, various Muslims from different backgrounds lodged petitions against him. The Kwara State police then arrested him in Ibadan.

Following the court ruling on August 7, a Magistrate Court in Ilorin ordered Tani Olohun’s imprisonment until October 5, 2023.

A legal counsel, Ademola Abdulquadri, has clarified that the case’s core focus was defamation of character, debunking rumors connecting it to the Isese festival. He emphasized that the petitioners’ sincere concerns about the consequences of Tani Olohun’s statements were what led to the arrest.
