The Senate building of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, was, on Friday evening, gutted by fire.
According to a statement issued by the Director of the Public Affairs Directorate of the university, Awwal Umar, the fire started around 4:15 pm, adding that the incident occurred from a small room housing an electrical Distribution Board (DB) on the ground floor of the building.
The statement also said that the cause of the fire incident could not be immediately ascertained.

However, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Kabiru Bala, who was at the scene of the incident along with some management staff and hundreds of sympathisers, commended the University firefighters and security personnel for putting out the fire, adding that the University Management has raised a team to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
