Just In: After Atiku, Dele Momodu joins ADC from PDP, blames anti-democratic forces
Dele Momodu, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and publisher of Ovation Magazine, has announced his resignation from the party, criticizing what he describes as the erosion of democratic values. His resignation, dated July 17, 2025, was presented to the Chairman of the PDP Ward 4 in Ihievbe, Edo State.
In his resignation letter, Momodu stated, “I wish to inform you of my decision to resign from our political party, PDP, with immediate effect. Our party has been unarguably hijacked by anti-democratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight.” He expressed his intention to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of a coalition aiming to challenge President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 elections.
Criticizing the current leadership of the PDP, he added, “It is, therefore, honourable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress.”
Earlier in July, Momodu had accused Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, of being a traitor within the party, asserting that Wike supported the APC during the last presidential election despite being a PDP member. “Without any doubt, people are leaving the carcass of PDP to Wike and his cronies, that’s all. It was a prophecy foretold,” Momodu said on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.
He further alleged that the APC is infiltrating opposition parties with moles to diminish competition for the 2027 election, stating, “The ruling party does not want competition in 2027, so what they are doing now is to send their moles into any major formidable party.”
Momodu also voiced strong criticism of the Tinubu administration, claiming it has worsened the state of Nigeria. “I know you might not be able to answer but is this the Nigeria of your dreams? Are you better today than you were two years ago?” he questioned, highlighting a significant decline from the previous administration’s legacy.
