The Nigerian First Lady, Aisha Buhari, has sent out messages of invitation to aspirants eyeing the presidency of the country. This invitation was not directed at aspirants for the presidency within the ruling party only, but also aspirants in other political parties. The official invite is to show up for a Ramadan dinner with her on Saturday, April 23.
The presidential aspirants are to present their invitation cards at the entry of the meeting venue, as that will serve as the only ticket qualifying participants for the meeting.
The presidential aspirants were also told they will not be allowed to enter the meeting venue with their phones.
“Please, bring this card with you. Phones are not allowed,” clarified the invite.
The ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) has now got about 8 persons who have shown interest in the Nigerian presidency ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
The former governor of Lagos state and national leader of the ruling party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in January, made his declaration of intention to vie for the presidency when he visited the Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, on a visit of consultation at the Aso Villa, Abuja.
The Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, followed the same path, and in a similar manner, visited Buhari to tell him of his intention to contest for the seat of president of the country.
Shortly after, the country’s political dynamic got much interesting as other political gladiators in the ruling party followed the trend. Other political actors like a former governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Kalu; ex-governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha; Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State; and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, also declared their interest in the presidency on the platform of the APC.
The incumbent Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has also joined the race.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the other hand cannot be left out in this battle for the presidential power, as political actors in the party too had publicized intents to run for the highest political seat in the country.
Those who have announced their readings readiness to occupy the top position on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) include the governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal; a United States-based medical doctor, Nwachukwu Anakwenze; media mogul and publisher, Dele Momodu; Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike; astute banker and economist, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen; former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi; Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel and a Pharmacist, Sam Ohuabunwa.
In the list are also the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar; former Senate President, Bukola Saraki; former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim and the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, as well as the only female aspirant in the race, Oliver Tareila Diana.
