[JUST IN] 2026: Adedamola emerges new Osun PDP guber candidate after Adeleke’s exit from party

Less than 24 hours after the resignation of Governor Ademola Adeleke from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the new candidate, Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola has emerged as the governorship candidate of the party for the 2026 gubernatorial election in the state.

According to report, Adedamola scored 919 votes to clinch the ticket at the party’s primary held on Tuesday at Adolak Hall in Osogbo.

His victory came after Ademola Adeleke, whose name had initially been listed for the contest, formally resigned from the PDP ahead of the exercise.

The Informant247 had earlier reported that Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, had resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Although the governor only confirmed his exit on Monday, The Informant247 gathered that Adeleke submitted his resignation about a month earlier.

The letter, personally signed by him and dated November 4, 2025, indicated that he had already withdrawn from the party before the matter became public.

His Chief Press Secretary, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, in a statement, said the resignation letter was addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, in Ede North Local Government Area.

In the letter, Adeleke said he was leaving the party due to the “current crisis within the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party.”

He also thanked the PDP for the platforms that enabled his election as Senator representing Osun West and later as Governor.

However, neither the letter nor the CPS statement gave any clue about the governor’s next political destination.

His silence has triggered speculation across Osun State, especially as political parties intensify preparations for their 2026 governorship primaries.
