Japan Prime Minister rescued after bomb blast
The Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida has been rescued from a public event following the appearance of a smoke bomb thrown in his direction.
This came months after the former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was gunned down during a campaign last year.
The local media reported on Saturday April 15 that the security authorities of the country have instituted the arrest and detention of a person at the scene in Wakayama, where Kishida had been scheduled to deliver a speech.
A source who witnessed the scenario said one person threw something and which was followed by a smoke.
Another source that was at the scene said he heard a big bang.
The public broadcaster of the country NHK revealed a video of officers’bouncing on a person suspected to be the thrower of the bomb.
He showed another video of people scampering for their safety.
Report has it that the detained suspect got arrested on suspicion of obstruction of business.
Kishida was delivering a speech when the substance was thrown in his direction.
It was also revealed that he will continue with his scheduled plan for the rest of the day.
A woman who witnessed the scenario said: “I was stunned. My heart is still beating fast.”
One person who said an object could be seen moving through the air said it was a “bad feeling, so we ran away unbelievably fast”.
“Then we heard a really loud noise. It made my daughter cry,” he added.
A member of the Kishida’s Liberal Democratic Party, Hiroshi Moriyama said: “That something like this happened in the middle of an election campaign that constitutes the foundation of democracy is regrettable. It’s an unforgivable atrocity.”
