JAMB to open self-service registration centres in Abuja, Lagos

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it will open self-service registration centres in Abuja and Lagos to capitalise on the digital skills of its computer-savvy candidates.

On Monday in Abuja, JAMB announced this in its Weekly Bulletin from the Office of the Registrar.

The method is anticipated to minimise crowds at its authorised Computer-Based Tests (CBT) Centres in both cities, according to the company.

The goal, according to the board, is to improve the digital competency of applicants who can complete the registration process on their own.

It also stated that it intends to extend registration access points in accordance with the current federal government’s COVID-19 regulations.

The board expressed their trust in the service provider, Bankfort, who informed the board of the tremendous potential of the seamless registration option.

Furthermore, JAMB indicated that it expects to pay at least N50 million in additional commission to its financial suppliers.

This preceded the implementation of its cashless regime in the 2022 registration process.

According to the bulletin, the board’s Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the added financial load is the price the board is willing to pay.

This, according to Oloyede, was in response to the board’s concern over the condition of UTME and Direct Entry (DE) applicants in the hands of shady CBT centre proprietors.

“The measure would put an end to additional re – skilling that generally accompany the payment of direct service costs for registration at these centres,” he added.

He further stated that applicants must acquire an e-PIN for N3,500, which is subsidised by the federal government, a N500 obligatory reading text, and a N700 regulated price for CBT centres.

“All payments cost N4,700 because applicants are now expected to pay the mandated N700 price for CBT centres, as well as the cost for e-PIN.”

The board would then communicate all accumulated entitlements to various CBT centres on a weekly basis or any period agreed upon by the respective centres, in order to reduce any visible violations.”

Oloyede also added that, while the board is now in charge of collecting the N700 service charge on behalf of the centres, it would also be responsible for collecting the N25 commission.

He said that the N25 commission will be worth more than N50 million in 2021.

Oloyede, meanwhile, asked all financial institutions to be participating in the UTME/DE registration to live up to expectations.

He stated that the vendors will be held liable for any crime or infringement committed by their representatives.
