National chairmanship aspirant of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Mallam Saliu Mustapha has urged young members of the party to participate in the forthcoming congresses at all levels by identifying and contesting positions they are “expertise in”.
He pointed out that the party is built on a culture of competence, character and sound principles, adding that it has equally shown beyond doubt that it offers young people the most supportive structures to rise through the ladder of leadership.
Saliu stated this in an open letter titled “It’s Youths O’Clock: An Open Letter to APC Youths in Nigeria” and made available to journalists on Thursday.
He said the prices fixed by the Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker Committee for the nomination forms of the Congresses across board is a bold step that emphasises how important the party considers the youths in its decision-making organ.
He added that the committee’s position demonstrates the party’s resolve to advance progressive governance anchored on a pro-people party structure where every rank-and-file member is held in high esteem.
He furthered, “I therefore like to charge you and other young party members with competence, capacity and character in our great party to obtain nomination forms and campaign for the congresses at all ward, Local Government, state and even national levels.
“As a candidate myself at national level and my experience over the years, I know why it is important we have a blend of intergenerational demography in the structure of our Party leadership. As the saying goes, it is only where we have the wise youths and the sage elders that we can have a prosperous land.”
Recall that the Party in a statement issued last week released the timetable/schedule of activities for the conduct of congresses across wards, local government areas (LGAs) and states of the federation to elect party officials.
The statement also added that the purchase of forms forward congresses commenced on 1st and ends 7th July, 2021 while the inauguration of ward/LGA congresses screening /screening appeals committee is slated for 10th July, 2021.
