Issa Mutolib unveils ‘Shattered Dreams of a Patriot’ in Ilorin
Author Issa Mutolib Ayobami has unveiled his new book, Shattered Dreams of a Patriot: A Story of Love and Trials, at a ceremony held at the State Banquet Hall in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The book presentation, which took place on Sunday, attracted scholars, political leaders, dignitaries and literary enthusiasts who gathered to celebrate the release of the multi-chapter work.
The book explores themes of personal sacrifice, marital resilience and Nigeria’s political history.
Reviewing the literary and biographical elements of the publication, Professor Reuben Kehinde Akano, a Professor of African Literature and Cultural Studies at Kwara State University, Malete, described it as a narrative inspired by a true-life story but structured like a novel.
Akano explained that the book chronicles the marital journey of Gbadegesin, also known as Brother Bosun, and his wife, Awele, whose relationship initially faced strong opposition.
He said the story was narrated from the perspective of the couple’s eldest son, Ladipo, while incorporating broader historical and political developments, including events surrounding the emergence of a Nigerian head of state.
In his critical assessment, the professor raised questions about whether the publication should be formally classified as a biography, given that it documents the lives of individuals who are still alive.
He also emphasised the importance of maintaining publishing standards, including ISBN registration and the credentials of reputable publishing houses, particularly for books exceeding 100 pages.
Recommending the book to literary enthusiasts, Akano said, “I highly recommend this book for all literary enthusiasts. However, I urge anyone who has no intention of reading the book to its end not even start, because once you start in the first place, else you’re hooked till the very end.”
Also speaking at the event, former governorship candidate, Hon. Hakeem Oladimeji Lawal, recounted his longstanding relationship with the author, praising his consistency, loyalty and dedication over the years.
Lawal recalled how Ayobami accompanied him through demanding political schedules, expressing confidence in the author’s potential to achieve professional success.
The event also featured financial contributions from distinguished guests and dignitaries in support of the author and his new publication.
In his closing remarks, Ayobami expressed gratitude to his family, mentors, reviewers and invited guests for their support and presence.
He described the publication as a significant milestone in his literary journey and a testament to his commitment to resilience.
