Amidst security concerns in Kwara state, the Kwara State Police Command has encouraged the followers of the indigenous traditional religion, Isese, to consider moving their upcoming festival scheduled for August 20, 2023, to other regions of the country.
In a statement issued by SP Okasanmi Ajayi, the Police Public Relations Officer, the Command revealed that discussions had taken place with local vigilante groups, community policing members, traditional worship leaders, and representatives from neighboring states.
These discussions aimed to emphasize the unfavorable security environment in the state for the planned celebration, urging them to explore alternative locations until a more conducive security situation arises.
The Command disclosed their intention to enhance security strategies for maintaining peace and reducing criminal activities across Kwara State.
As part of this effort, a comprehensive security initiative dubbed “Harmony Security Week” will be implemented.
This operation entails 24-hour stop and search activities, including motorized and foot patrols.
The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP. Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi, has extended a message to the citizens, assuring that the officers assigned to this task are trained to respect the rights of individuals while carrying out their duties.
The Command also sent a stern warning to potential lawbreakers, stating that anyone posing a security threat would be apprehended and prosecuted.
This move seeks to foster a safer environment for all residents of Kwara State.
