The Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Geographic Information Service (KWGIS), ESV. Abdulkareem Babatunde Sulyman, announced that the agency processed 354 “Charting for Confirmation Papers” in the first quarter of 2025.
This initiative, taking place at the Directorate of Survey under the Office of the Surveyor General, is aimed at helping applicants verify land statuses related to location, size, and validity of survey plans prior to obtaining rights of occupancy or certificates of occupancy.
During a press briefing organized by the Ministry of Communications in Ilorin, ESV Sulyman highlighted the agency’s achievements, stating, “We were able to process a total of 354 ‘Charting for Confirmation’ requests and 247 Certificates of Occupancy, which are now fully processed and awaiting the Governor’s approval.”
The Chairman credited the success to the ongoing automation system implemented by the current administration, which is enhancing the administration and management of land and buildings in the state.
“The transition to an automated system has allowed us to accelerate our processes,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of aligning developmental activities with the State’s Master Plan for growth.
In addition to the processing of land statuses, ESV Sulyman reported on the urban renewal program spearheaded by the administration. He stated that significant work has been done through the reclamation of government setbacks around institutions and major roads.
He also mentioned that the Directorate of Survey received sixteen applications for land registration certificates, with twelve of those successfully issued after fulfilling the necessary requirements. Additionally, 238 survey reports were processed and forwarded to the Lands Directorate for further action.
Looking ahead, Sulyman expressed confidence that the ongoing reforms and automation of land administration will continue to enhance the state’s internally generated revenue. He concluded with significant news regarding land acquisition, revealing that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has acquired 1,057.14 hectares for a large-scale agricultural initiative at Budo-Alfa. Over 500 million naira has also been allocated for 2,000 hectares for an industrial park, and preliminary assessments for land in the Oke-Oyi axis for the smart city project are underway.
