Insecurity worsens as gunmen attack Abuja estate
Residents of Grow Homes Estate in Chikakore, Kubwa, Abuja, were startled awake early Monday morning by a series of gunshots as an armed gang launched an attack on the community.
This incident is part of a troubling trend, with Chikakore experiencing multiple attacks in recent months.
A local resident shared their experience with Daily Trust, expressing concern over the growing insecurity. They mentioned that while the total number of abducted individuals was unclear, there was confirmation that at least one victim had been released.
Josephine Adeh, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, confirmed the details of the assault. “On Monday, 26th May 2025, at approximately 01:00 AM, we received a distress call from officers stationed near Grow Homes Estate, reporting an attack by armed assailants and requesting immediate backup,” Adeh stated.
Upon arriving on the scene, police discovered that the armed gang had breached the estate’s rear perimeter fence and had abducted two residents. “Our officers exchanged gunfire with the attackers for about 40 minutes, successfully rescuing one victim, identified as Chinyere Joe. Unfortunately, the attackers escaped with the second victim,” she added.
In response to this violent incident, the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping unit, alongside the army and other security agencies, has launched efforts to locate and apprehend the suspects responsible for the attack, aiming to ensure the safe return of the abducted individual.
The FCT Police Command is urging residents to stay vigilant, cooperate with law enforcement, and report any suspicious activities or emergencies promptly using designated emergency numbers.
