Pep Guardiola is doubtful of Erling Haaland  featuring against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup third-round encounter on Wednesday.

Despite coming in as a substitute and scoring a late penalty winner against Fulham on Sunday, Guardiola has raised doubts over the Norwegian  featuring in the Wednesday’s game.

“He is still not perfect,” Guardiola said at Tuesday’s pre-match press conference. “We’ll see tomorrow [Wednesday] and on Saturday [against Brentford]. He is getting better”.

“What’s important is the bone isn’t broken so there’s no damage, just the ligament is damaged a bit. It’s not perfect right now, but in one week or 10 days anything can happen.”

Haaland, who returned from a two-game injury absence as a second-half over last weekend has netted 23 goals in 17 appearances since joining the team in the new season.

On the heels of his fitness, he is also expected to decide whether he will feature for Norway in their friendlies against Republic of Ireland and Finland this month.

“If he feels good, to play for the national team is important for the players,” Guardiola said. “I have no problem for players when they are fit to play for the national team.”

Chelsea and Manchester City will lock horns in the next 24 hours in a game that may see both sides not fixing up most of their aces
