Immigration Service orders passport offices to work, Saturdays
Passport offices across the federation have been ordered by the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, to open and work on Saturdays to attend to the accumulation of pending passport applications.
The spokesperson of the NIS, Mr Tony Akuneme made this declaration in a statement, Saturday in Abuja, the country’s capital.
The image maker of the service disclosed that the order has come from the Comptroller-General, Mr Isa Jere.
He added that the Comptroller-General has welcomed the mobilisation of the Passport Controller in Ondo to NIS Zonal office in Ibadan while the one in Ekiti to Jigawa.
The NIS mouthpiece also revealed that the CG is ready to hold to account the passport officers for any wrong act or unethical conduct of the officers under their supervision.
“The C-G has directed that Passport offices across the country with high volume of pending applications to work on Saturdays.
“The period for this exercise is expected to be every Saturday commrencing from Dec. 3, 2022 to Jan. 28, 2023 between the period of 10 am to 2 pm.
“This is to enhance our service delivery to out esteemed clients.
“The Saturday proceding the Christmas and New Year holidays are exempted, ” he said.
The spokesperson also ordered the concerned passport offices to communicate him by Monday for further updates.
Akuneme reaffirmed that the C-G was ready to make passport services accessible for interested persons especially during the period of festivity.
