I’m ready to team up with Peter Obi to challenge APC in 2027 – Bala Mohammed

In a significant move aimed at challenging the dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 elections, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has expressed his willingness to collaborate with Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate. During a recent meeting held at the Government House, Mohammed praised Obi’s political approach and vision for Nigeria, highlighting their mutual admiration.

Governor Mohammed stated, “We have a lot of respect and admiration for him because of his style of politics, statesmanship, versatile nature, and deep understanding of the economy and governance.” He acknowledged that Obi has a clear vision for improving governance, positively impacting citizens, and fostering national unity.

He noted that this meeting was not their first; they had previously met in Abuja and discussed various national issues, including the political landscape in Rivers State. “I appreciate what he is doing as a leader of the opposition. He is now the face of opposition politics in Nigeria,” Mohammed remarked, signaling his commitment to forging a strong opposition alliance.

The governor expressed his readiness to collaborate with Obi to strengthen their cause for better governance and address Nigeria’s pressing challenges. “Our coming together sends a powerful message, and this partnership will resonate as my fellow governors support this alliance,” he asserted.

On his part, Peter Obi indicated that his visit to Mohammed was part of broader consultations to tackle Nigeria’s current issues. He emphasized the importance of engaging with influential leaders from the North to address the region’s specific challenges. Obi pointed out that poverty is the root cause of many societal issues, including crime. “To address criminality, we must first tackle poverty,” he stated, advocating for investments in education and agriculture to uplift the nation economically.

Highlighting the need for urgent discussions on critical issues such as hunger, healthcare, and poverty, Obi remarked on the current political discourse’s focus on lesser concerns, indicating a disconnect from the pressing needs of the Nigerian populace.
