Cross River State’s Police Command has made a significant discovery, uncovering an illegal factory producing guns and explosives in Osomba community, Akamkpa Local Government Area of the state.
The operation was conducted by a team from the Command’s Anti-Cultism and Kidnapping Squad, led by SP Ogini Chukwuma, and resulted in the recovery of a cache of arms.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, the operation, which lasted four hours, yielded substantial results. The recovered items included remote-controlled Improvised Explosives Devices, detonators, various automatic weapons, locally made double-barrel guns, and pistols. In total, nine suspects were apprehended at the illegal arms factory.
SP Irene Ugbo emphasized that those arrested were “known gun runners” and that they would face legal action once the investigation is complete. She described the discovery as a “pure act of terrorism” due to the production of explosives within a community and the presence of sophisticated remote detonators and indicators.
The Cross River State Police Command is determined to combat crime and criminal activities in the state and will continue its efforts to ensure the safety of its residents.
