IESU senate holds security summit
The Ilorin Emirate Student Union, Senate Council, on Monday, held a security summit at the Government Secondary School in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital city.
Speaking during the summit, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ajayi Okasanmi described Kwara as one of the most peaceful states in the country, stressing that the cops are doing everything possible to ensure the state remains secure.
Okasanmi said, “Kwara Police Command has recorded less of criminal activity in the state, and that’s not just with an ordinary eye but the fact that God loves the state and had made it so special. So, Kwarans especially Ilorin people should be proud of their state.
“The cases recorded are mostly from within and parents should be mindful of what their children are doing and try to monitor them and caution them not to engage in unlawful acts.”
He urged citizens to be vigilant at all times and to always call on the police any time they suspect strange movements or things in their area.
For his part, the publisher of Informant247, who doubles as the Chairman of Association of Online Media in Kwara State, Comrade Salihu Shola Taofeek called on the Media practitioners in the state to always verify news before sharing out to the public.
He explained that media practitioners are expected to inform the public on the news that would guarantee safety, peace, and unity in the state and the country at large.
Speaking earlier, the Senate president, Sen. Salihu Saheed, while declaring the summit open, stated that it is aimed at creating more awareness on security.
Saheed added, “We decided to have a security summit program to orientate the youths on how to make the environment secure. The youth should try to promote peace in their environment and avoid activities that could make them misbehave or engage in unlawful activity.”
He also advised the youth to engage in legal online business rather than involving themselves in Yahoo Yahoo (internet fraud).
