IBEDC: We refund communities that purchase transformers if they submit proper complaints
The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has stated that communities seeking refunds for transformers and other electrical equipment must follow the proper complaint process and sign a memorandum of understanding with the company.
This clarification comes amid allegations that IBEDC often fails to address consumer needs, leading to situations where customers purchase or repair transformers on their own to restore power.
In response to a report by The Informant247, Mr. Gbenga, the IBEDC branch officer in Kwara State, emphasized the company’s commitment to addressing consumer complaints but noted that some communities, due to impatience, may seek solutions from licensed contractors without following the formal complaint process.
He explained that while these contractors might be licensed by the Federal Ministry of Mining, their work with IBEDC is not formally recognized if it bypasses the official complaint process.
“IBEDC doesn’t request donations for transformers that go through the official process,” Mr. Gbenga said, “It’s not acceptable to procure a transformer independently and then ask IBEDC to energize it without following the proper procedures.”
The IBEDC official added that the company has a clear process for handling consumer complaints and that any ad hoc staff working with contractors or communities without proper authorization may not represent IBEDC’s official stance.
