Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has stated the reason why he did not bother to challenge President Muhammadu Buhari for the All Progressives Congress presidential ticket in 2015, saying that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, did little to develop infrastructure in the country.
The Informant247 reported that Bello, who is one of the sitting governors had declared his interest to run for the presidency in 2023.
In the report, the Governor had promised to made 20 million Nigerians millionaires in seven years if elected.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Bello who praised Buhari for his infrastructure achievements, said, that was the reason he has decided to enter the race for the 2023 presidency.
He added he would now build on such a legacy left by Buhari if elected as Nigeria’s president.
The Kogi State Governor said, “Today, I am running to build on the successes of President Muhammadu Buhari because of his performance,” the governor said during the current affairs show.
“In 2015, I dare not because there was no foundation whatsoever to build upon. But today under APC, President Muhammadu Buhari has been able to lay the foundation that I can build upon,” he added.
Bello referenced the apprenticeship system in the South-East, insisting that for every challenge facing the country, solutions abound if the nation looks inward.
“Why can’t we in this country develop homegrown solutions to our own problems?” he asked.
