Hunger protest: Give Tinubu more time, Senator Mustapha begs Nigerians

In preparation for the nation’s hunger protest, Saliu Mustapha, the senator representing Kwara Central in the National Assembly, has urged Nigerians to shelve the proposed protest and give President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration more time to address the hardship faced by the country

Mustapha made this known in a statement on Saturday while acknowledging that it is the fundamental right of Nigerians to a peaceful protest.

The lawmaker, however, expressed concern over the frequency of such protests in Nigeria, which have often led to negative consequences, while noting instances where peaceful demonstrations were disrupted by criminal elements, resulting in the destruction of public and private property and exacerbating economic hardships.

The statement said, “The Tinubu administration is working hard to revive the economy and improve the quality of life for all. It’s important to balance the right to protest with safeguarding public safety and economic stability. We must be cautious not to let criminal elements exploit legitimate grievances for their destructive purposes.”

“I appeal to all Nigerians to support the government’s efforts and avoid actions that could destabilize our nation further. Let’s give the administration the chance to implement its plans for a better Nigeria,” the statement added.
