Hours to elections, APC suspends Senate Chief Whip, Kalu

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has suspended a popular chieftain of the party, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu who’s also the senatorial candidate for Abia North from the party.

This came barely 24 hours to the presidential and national assembly elections scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 25, 2023.

The Informant247 understands that Kalu is a former governor of the State and currently holding a principal office (Chief Whip) in the Senate.

This was revealed in a letter jointly signed by the Chairman of the party’s disciplinary committee, Barr. Paul Nwabuisi; the state chairman of the party, Dr Kingsley Ononogbu and the state secretary, Chief Chidi Avaja.

The letter which was made available to newsmen on Friday, February 24, 2023 announced the immediate suspension of the party’s chieftain.

According to the letter, the suspension was with immediate effect.

The letter released in Umuahia, the capital of the state, accused the chieftain of anti-party activities.

“The suspension is as a result of thorough investigations and recommendations of the disciplinary committee set up by Igbere Ward A, Bende LGA and the leadership of the party,” the letter said.

The letter said the decision “is in consonance with Article 21b (i-v) of the Constitution of the party.

“Note that the party is highly committed to her integrity and as such will not condone any of these afore-stated acts and other forms of anti-party activities.”

The letter further explained that “having evidence substantial enough for your suspension, the integrity of the party must be protected.”

The letter was copied to the national chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

The Informant247 recalls that Kalu in a recent television interview revealed that he cannot come out and openly declare support for the state governorship candidate of the party, while abandoning his own blood brother vying for the same position on the platform of another political party.
