Hoodlums set BRT bus on fire after collision with commercial bus in Lagos
A Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle on Wednesday April 19, 2023 caught fire following a collision with a commercial bus, leading to the death of a driver.
The serious road accident happened on the Ifako Bridge inward Ogudu on the Oworonshoki Expressway.
The deceased driver, in a video which has gone viral online, could be seen on the floor while his vehicle has turned upside down.
A source who witnessed the scenario said the bus occupied passengers from Lagos Island and was moving in the direction of Ojodu Berger area of the state.
The accident was confirmed by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
LASTMA confirmed that the driver lost his life on the spot as some passengers had minor injury.
The agency revealed that, “An accident at Ifako inwards Ogudu Bridge involving a BRT Bus and a commercial Bus. One Casualty on ground with others injured.”
It also narrated that some hoodlums occupied the area and set the BRT bus on fire.
A mouthpiece of the agency, Adebayo Taofik said the operatives of the agency in collaboration with the traffic police officers were present at the affected area to control the traffic for easy movement.
In a statement released by the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Margaret Adeseye said: “area boys” burned the BRT bus.
She added that some immediately moved to the affected area to rescue the fire incident.
She said: “Operational firefighting has commenced and we handed over one male adult to the police from Ogudu Division.”
She said the BRT driver and his assistant survived the incident, sustaining minor injury.
