Herder arrested over attack on farmer in Kwara
A herder, Bugi Juli has been arrested for attacking a 16-year-old farmer, Abubakar Sulade with a machete in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
This was contained in a press statement on Saturday, October 16, signed by the spokesman of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr. Babawale Afolabi.
Afolabi stated that a renewed clash between herders and farmers started and it resulted in a machete attack.
According to the Spokesman, the assailant and his accomplice were arrested after a manhunt was launched.
He said, “There had been a long-term misunderstanding between two families, over grazing land, which took a bloody turn recently.
“One family attacked another with a machete which resulted in a grievous bodily harm on one Abubakar Sulade, 16, who got a deep cut on his hand.”
The Spokesman further said that the victim had been treated at a government-owned hospital.
While the further investigation continues, Afolabi said NSCDC had intensified its efforts to ensure peace and stability is restored.
NSCDC said they are planning to invite the two warring families to a peace meeting.
